boots.

hello, climate weirding. it's raining during the dry season.

when i hike i usually wear shoes but am left disgruntled when the bottoms of my pants are covered in mud. (did you read my laundry post? scrubbing mud out of the bottom of my pants increases the amount of time washing clothes.) rubber boots are always worn by campesinos to hike mountains. i'm not sure how long these rubber boots have been around, but i have a faint idea that it was the women who really encouraged these as the ultimate outdoor shoes. i've been lusting after a pair of botas for a while but thought they were too expensive at a price of 220 lempira. (roughly 20 lempira = 1 dollar)

i recently went on a rather long trip without a rain jacket or closed shoes. i had a long internal debate as to the benefit of a rain jacket compared to the very low likelihood of rain/space in my bag, so i decided to ditch the jacket. i'm fairly certain it rained in every locale i found myself. not only cold, i was mojada and in need of hiking in some rather muddy places. i went straight to the local market to fork over all those lempira to save my sandals, pants and sanity. best decision ever! not only did i find the boots at a bargain, 120 lempira, but i've been jumping in mud puddles ever since. it turns out that i'm quite child-like when sporting these rubber boots. i am starting to search out reasons for wearing them.
